The ongoing Monsoon Session of the Bihar Assembly witnessed another stormy session on Wednesday when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav ‘Bachcha’ (child) while the latter was speaking about the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar.

After two days of repeated requests from the Opposition for a discussion on the burning issue in the House, Assembly Speaker Nand Kishor Yadav allowed only the leader of the Opposition to speak.

The RJD leader pointed out that the affidavit submitted by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in the Supreme Court does not mention anything about infiltrators, nor has any BJP BLA (Booth Level Agent) made such complaints anywhere. However, both the deputy chief ministers of Bihar issued statements alleging that Nepalis and Bangladeshis have also been enrolled as voters.

“Those spreading such narratives should explain why such claims are being made when the NDA government under Nitish Ji has been in power in Bihar from 2005 to 2025, and the BJP has been in power at the Centre since 2014. If such issues exist, then who should be held responsible? It is clearly evident that both the Central and state governments are not fulfilling their roles properly,” Tejashwi added.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha raised an objection and asked Tejashwi to stop misleading the people.

At this juncture, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stood up from his chair and stopping Tejashwi from speaking, said, “Pehle kuchhh tha? Jaante ho… Bachcha na ho. Are tum to bahut bachcha na the… People were afraid to step out alone at night even in Patna.”

“When you were young, your father was the chief minister for seven years. After that, your mother also served as chief minister. What was the situation during that time? If you want, we can discuss what things were like back then. In these 20 years, we even gave nine months to someone else. We were also in alliance with you, twice, but you people did not do your job properly. Now that we are working together again, what is the point of making such statements,” he asked.

Later, speaking to the media, Tejashwi Yadav said his sympathy is with Nitish Kumar. “When I was discussing the matter, the chief minister interrupted in between and started speaking without even knowing what the discussion was about. From such statements by the chief minister, it can be understood that he is no longer capable of running the government.”
