Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a four-day trip to the United Kingdom and the Maldives on Wednesday. The four-day diplomatic tour aims to strengthen bilateral ties, focusing on trade partnerships, technological innovation, defence collaboration, and regional cooperation.
“I am confident that the visit will yield tangible outcomes, benefiting our people and advancing our Neighborhood First Policy,” PM Modi stated ahead of embarking on the trip.

“Leaving for the UK, a country with which our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has achieved significant momentum in the last few years. I look forward to my talks with PM Keir Starmer and my meeting with His Majesty King Charles III,” PM Modi said in his statement.

In an immediate separate post, the Prime Minister said: “Day after tomorrow, 25th July, I will be in the Maldives at the invitation of the President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. I am honoured to be taking part in the 60th Independence Day celebrations of the Maldives. This year, we also mark 60 years of India-Maldives diplomatic relations. The talks with President Muizzu will certainly add momentum to bilateral ties across diverse sectors.
During his visit to the UK, Modi will meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to enhance the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, discussing trade, economy, defence, innovation, climate action, healthcare, and education. He will also meet King Charles III during his visit.
While in the Maldives, Modi will attend the South Asian country’s 60th Independence Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour, marking 60 years of India-Maldives diplomatic relations. He will also review the progress under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) and potentially advance discussions on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
PM Modi will also have meetings with President Muizzu and other leaders to advance the joint vision of a Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership for peace, prosperity, and stability in the Indian Ocean Region.
Modi’s visit underscores India’s commitment to its “Neighbourhood First” policy and Vision MAHASAGAR, strengthening maritime links in the Indian Ocean Region.
