Season’s first rail parcel van departs Jammu for Mumbai carrying 12 ton cherries
The season’s first rail van carrying 12 tonnes of Kashmir’s juicy deep-red cherries departed for Mumbai from here early this morning.
A 5-year-old student was crushed to death and at least four others, including a minor girl, injured due to a rockslide that crashed into the Government Primary School at Kalsian in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

Chief Medical Officer, Poonch, P A Khan said the accident took place when a rock from a nearby hill rolled down at the school building. The injured students were rushed to the district hospital for treatment.

The killed student has been identified as Ehsan Ali (5). The four injured are Mohammad Safeer (7), Bilal Farooq (8), Aftab Ahmed (6) and Tobia Kouser (7).

Expressing sorrow over the mishap, Lt. Governor wrote on X; “The news of the death of a 5-year-old child due to a rockslide which crashed into Primary School, Kalsian, Poonch is heart-rending. May God give strength to the bereaved parents to bear this shock. I pray for the speedy recovery of other children injured in this incident”.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of a young student in the landslide that struck a government school in Bainch Kalsan, Poonch. He has extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and wished a speedy recovery to the injured children.
The Chief Minister has directed the administration to ensure proper medical care for the injured and to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident.
