Delhi Congress pays tribute to Sheila Dikshit on her death anniversary; slams AAP and BJP Governments

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Devender Yadav, along with a large number of party leaders and workers, paid floral tributes to former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on her 6th death anniversary at the party’s state unit office, Rajiv Bhawan, on Sunday.

Remembering Dikshit, Yadav said that the welfare schemes introduced by the then Congress government under her leadership for slum dwellers, street vendors, Dalits, minorities, and the marginalized have largely been discontinued by the Aam Aadmi Party and BJP governments.

Calling that period a “golden era” for Delhi, Yadav highlighted transformative projects such as the Delhi Metro, flyovers, underpasses, the CNG-based public transport fleet including DTC buses, well-paved roads, modern hospitals, new universities, colleges and schools, and the expansion of green cover, which significantly changed the face of the capital.

According to him, the people of Delhi still remember Sheila Dikshit for the unprecedented development she ushered in as Chief Minister. In contrast, over the past 11–12 years, the AAP government and now the BJP dispensation have only eroded the infrastructure and public services built during the Congress regime, he alleged.

Yadav further stated that significant progress in education, health, environment, transport, the metro, and women’s welfare was made during Dikshit’s time, but all such development has come to a grinding halt over the last 12 years.

Among others who paid tribute were Dikshit’s son and former MP Sandeep Dikshit, daughter Latika, former MP Udit Raj, former Delhi ministers Dr Narendra Nath, Mangat Ram Singhal, Dr Yoganand Shastri, Professor Kiran Walia, and several others.

Yadav also alleged that the current Rekha Gupta-led administration has failed to fulfill its electoral promises, including cleaning the Yamuna, providing ₹2,500 to every woman, generating youth employment, resettling slum dwellers, and tackling air and water pollution.

Further attacking the BJP’s “triple engine” regime, he claimed it has completely failed to address Delhi’s problems, including waterlogging, pollution, traffic congestion, and worsening law and order.
