In a first, the Madhya Pradesh government accorded a guard of honour to an elderly lady from Gwalior, who passed away on Saturday and whose family donated her body for medical research.

On 1 July, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav announced that the state government would provide a guard of honour to those who donate their bodies and vital organs after death.

The CM also said that the government would felicitate the family members of body and vital organ donors on 26 January and 15 August.

In line with that decision, the police provided a guard of honour to Pancho Bai Rajoriya (78), who breathed her last at her Thathipur residence in Gwalior on Saturday.

Her family members donated her body to the Gajraraje Medical College in Gwalior for medical research.

This was the first such guard of honour in the state following the CM’s announcement.
