The 55-year-old accused, allegedly involved in the rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl in Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh, was killed during an encounter with police on Friday morning.

The police laid a trap based on the information from an informer. The accused opened fire on the police, and he was injured when the police retaliated. The police took him to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police said the criminal has been identified as Manu, a resident of Mohammadabad Kotwali. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Aarti Singh, the police had been searching for the accused for the past several days. Several cases, like murder and kidnapping, were registered against the deceased.

An 8-year-old girl who had come to her maternal grandmother’s house in Kotwali Mohammadabad went missing on June 27. Her body was found in Bhogaon, Mainpuri, the next day on June 28.

SP Aarti Singh had deployed more than six teams to arrest the accused. The accused has been identified from CCTV footage, where he was walking ahead with a bicycle, and the victim was following him.
