Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday laid the foundation stone for an Automated Testing Station (ATS) at the DTC Nand Nagri Depot. She said, “This new facility in East Delhi will provide significant relief to lakhs of vehicle owners in the Trans-Yamuna region.”
The Chief Minister stated that her government is committed to enhancing road safety, pollution control, and transparency by developing a modern transport system in Delhi.

Emphasising the need for a precise, impartial, and digital vehicle fitness testing system amid Delhi’s rising vehicle numbers, CM Gupta noted that the city has over 1.53 crore registered vehicles, including around 6.5 lakh commercial vehicles requiring annual fitness certification. Currently, Delhi has only one operational automated testing station—in Jhuljhuli—with a capacity of 47,919 tests per year. The new centre in East Delhi will boost annual testing capacity by 72,000 vehicles, including 20,000 two-wheelers.
Gupta also expanded on the features of the new ATS, which will be entirely digital and free from human intervention, ensuring transparency and fairness.
The event was attended by Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh, MP Manoj Tiwari, Deputy Speaker of Delhi Assembly Mohan Singh Bisht, MLAs Jitendra Mahajan, Ajay Mahawar, and several dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Singh said that with this facility, lakhs of commercial vehicle owners—especially from East Delhi—will no longer need to travel long distances for vehicle fitness testing. “The hi-tech ATS in their vicinity will make the process quicker and more accessible, helping in both certification and pollution control,” he added.
