14 lakh youth trained, 5.65 lakh employed so far under govt’s skill mission in UP

Skill development has become a mass movement in Uttar Pradesh. Officials here on Wednesday said over the past eight years, the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM) has transformed lives by training more than 14 lakh youth, with over 5.65 lakh gaining employment or becoming self-reliant through self-employment.

Notably, the UP government’s Skill Development Mission is not only equipping youth with skills, but also connecting them to employment. This initiative is driving Uttar Pradesh towards self-reliance and realizing the vision of ‘New India, New Uttar Pradesh’.

The mission has partnered with over 1,000 training providers to offer short-term courses tailored to regional needs and youth interests. With more than 350 industry-aligned courses, this effort has improved training quality and created a direct link between youth and the industrial sector.

Recognizing the vital role of industries in youth employment, the Skill Development Mission launched the Flexi Training Partners Scheme. So far, 33 industrial units have been onboarded, with plans to add 5 more from each district. Recently, 11 new units have been contracted under this initiative.

The Deen Dayal Upadhyaya-Rural Skill Scheme has been a milestone for rural youth in Uttar Pradesh, offering free residential training with assured employment. Over the past eight years, around 1.80 lakh youth have been trained, of which 1.30 lakh have secured jobs..

Employment fairs are another key initiative of the Skill Development Mission, reaching every corner of the state. So far, 1,736 job fairs have connected over 4.13 lakh youth with 2,537 companies, providing them appointment letters. These fairs serve not just as job platforms, but also as avenues of confidence and opportunity for the youth.
