Miley Cyrus has never shied away from speaking her truth, and now the global pop star is getting candid about why she’s stepping away from touring, at least for the foreseeable future.
In a recent appearance on ‘Good Morning America’, the 32-year-old singer revealed that life on the road takes a serious toll on her well-being.

“It’s really hard to maintain sobriety when you’re on tour,” Miley admitted. “Sobriety is kind of a pillar of stability in my life. None of what I create would even be possible without the way I think about things, and touring challenges that.”
While many fans have wondered when they’ll next see Miley live in concert, the “Flowers” singer made it clear that touring isn’t on her agenda right now, not because she can’t do it physically, but because she simply doesn’t want to.
“I have the physical ability, I have the opportunities to tour. I wish I had the desire, but I don’t,” she said. “I also don’t think there’s an infrastructure that actually supports artists on tour.”
This isn’t the first time Miley has voiced concerns about the harsh realities of life on the road. Back in 2023, she publicly stated that touring wasn’t healthy for her, both mentally and emotionally.
She echoed those sentiments again, saying, “It’s really hard to keep mental wellness when you’re constantly touring.”
For Cyrus, the grind of performing night after night also affects her creativity. In a TikTok video, she explained how touring can distance her from authentic human connection.
“Having every day be about you as the performer and the audience as the observer. It erases my humanity and my connection,” she said. “Without my humanity and my connection, I can’t be a songwriter, and that’s my priority.”
She also reflected on her upbringing and how her path differed from that of her father, country star Billy Ray Cyrus. While Billy Ray struggled through financial and emotional hardships early in life, Miley described her own childhood as far more stable.
“I grew up on a soundstage, in a house with a family who was super close and all lived under the same roof,” she shared. “I grew up financially stable and emotionally stable. That’s something my dad didn’t have.”
For now, Miley Cyrus is choosing to focus on what brings her peace.
