Close on the heels of the arrest of Changur Baba alias Jalaluddin for allegedly converting Hindu girls to Muslim religion, another similar racket was unearthed in Bareilly.

She said from the papers and books found with Lalji, it seems he was converting people. “Converted more than 200 people, then wrote names in the diary,” the ASP said, adding, that the police is conducting an intensive investigation to know the contacts and financial source of the accused and the truth will come out soon.

According to the police, Lalji has so far converted more than 200 people, whose names he had noted in the diary, in a planned manner. Apart from this, the police have recovered a copy of Bible and four diaries, etc. from his room. They are also getting information about the accused’s bank accounts and conversations with people on mobile.

The ASP said on Monday, the police arrested the accused after completing legal process. According to the police, Lalji is accused of luring financially weak and uneducated women, children, and men of the Hindu community with money, jobs, houses, and marriage to adopt Christianity.

When Sunil Kumar, a Hindu Jagran Manch activist, came to know about this, he personally went to attend a meeting of the accused to confirm it before complaining to the police.

According to the police, more secrets are likely to come out from the four diaries found with the accused. Names of all the people of the area are written in these diaries. In front of each name is written, “Preaching has been done”.

Faridpur’s Station House Officer (SHO) Radheshyam said from this, the police is guessing that the accused has converted all those whose names are written in his diary.

Originally a resident of Mungeshwari village in the Mau district, Lalji came to live in Faridpur in 2002. He revealed before the police that earlier he used to support his family by doing hard labour here and there, but in 2008, after suffering from ‘brain hemorrhage’, he was admitted to a hospital in Delhi, where he was impressed by a doctor and nurse (Christian). Later, inspired by the religion, he influenced others to adopt Christianity. Further investigation in the case is underway.
