Air India on Saturday acknowledged the receipt of the preliminary report released by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) into the tragic crash of its aircraft AI-171 in Ahmedabad last month, saying it was working closely with all the stakeholders, including regulators.
In a statement issued on X, the airline said that it was fully cooperating with the AAIB and other authorities as the investigation into the crash progresses.
“We acknowledge receipt of the preliminary report released by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) today, 12 July 2025. Air India is working closely with stakeholders, including regulators. We continue to fully cooperate with the AAIB and other authorities as their investigation progresses,” the airline said.
At least 260 people, including 241 passengers and crew members, were killed after an Air India plane AI171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick London, crashed seconds after taking off.
The 15-page report, released by the AAIB on Friday midnight, stated that the fuel cutoff switches were “transitioned from RUN to CUTOFF position one after another with a time gap of 01 sec”.
The AAIB report also shared the cockpit voice recording of the pilots moment before the crash. In the recording, one pilot is heard asking the other why did he shut the engines down.
However, the other pilot denies doing that, raising suspicion that any accidental actions did not cause the crash, as the fuel cut-off switches are guarded and require deliberate operation, commonly in emergencies like mid-air engine fire.
