Actor and writer Manav Kaul is stepping back into the director’s chair after a long 13-year break, and this time, he’s bringing his own words to life on screen.
The versatile performer, best known for his powerful roles in films and web series, is now preparing to shoot his upcoming directorial venture this November in the picturesque terrains of Uttarakhand.

The yet-to-be-titled film is based on his own 2024 book ‘Sakshatkar’, which struck a chord with readers and inspired him to adapt it into a screenplay.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Manav Kaul revealed that the story is deeply rooted in the landscapes of the Himalayas and will be filmed across some untouched, scenic locations in the Kumaon and Garhwal regions.
“We’ve locked some really beautiful, lesser-known spots,” he shared with them.
Kaul isn’t just directing the film, he’s also acting in it. The cast includes acclaimed actor Kumud Mishra, Manasi Bhawalkar, and a talented group of theatre performers.
As for the film’s tone, Manav described it as a mix of humour and emotion, aiming to engage a wider audience while staying true to his artistic sensibilities.
“It’s not a typical indie or purely commercial film. It’s set in a fun zone with a gripping story,” he said. “My priority is to make a good film. If the story is strong and well-told, the audience will come. That’s my belief.”
Though Kaul isn’t obsessing over box-office numbers, he acknowledges that the commercial aspect can’t be ignored entirely.
“Of course, filmmaking is also a business. We do want it to do well. But right now, the focus is on creating something special. If we succeed in that, the rest will follow,” he explained.
Kaul also sees this project as a stepping stone toward building a more consistent space for his kind of storytelling in cinema. “We’ve built an audience through our plays. Now, I want to give them something in film that feels just as honest and entertaining. I’m shifting gears with this one. It’s going to be a fun ride!”
