Haryana Minister Anil Vij orders suspension of 6 officials after farmer’s electrocution in Karnal

Haryana’s Minister for Energy, Transport, and Labour, Anil Vij, took strict cognizance of the death of a youth due to electrocution in a field in village Haibatpur in Karnal district, and ordered the immediate suspension of six electricity department employees, including an SDO.

Action has been taken against Mohit (SDO), Sunil (JE), and linemen Deepak, Ajit, Satyawan, and Vikas, according to an official statement.

The Minister stated that an FIR had been registered against the six individuals at Nigdu police station on July 6, 2025.

The complaint, lodged by Pradeep Kumar, mentioned that both he and the deceased, named Rajesh Kumar, had repeatedly complained to the SDO, JE, and linemen about low-hanging wires in the field. However, no corrective action was taken.

Vij added that the live wire was hanging merely 5 feet above the ground. On the morning of the incident, Rajesh Kumar came in contact with it while entering the field and died on the spot, a tragedy resulting from gross negligence.

Given the seriousness of the matter, the Minister announced that all six officials have been suspended with immediate effect.
