Actor and stand-up comedian Vir Das, who is considered as one of the most funniest Indian men across the globe, gave a speech at his alma mater.
The Go Goa Gone actor’s speech was a commencement address to the class of 2018 and an acceptance speech as Knox college honoured him with a Honorary Doctorate.

Vir Das told the students that it is very important to “be stupid” in every aspect of their lives, to have the courage to something that the society thinks is a ridiculous idea.

Doing what he does best, Vir eased the atmosphere by cracking a few jokes and said, “I’m in my thirties and fully aware that I’ve got a lot to achieve before I can give a speech loaded with wisdom. So I tried to tell them something they wouldn’t normally hear. College kids today are extraordinarily smart, and are already driven towards smart choices. The way I see it, if you add one stupid thing to that universe of intelligence, life becomes a little more fun. It was an honour to speak to them and get my doctorate.”

Vir Das responded to repeated social media tagging during West Bengal election result trends, where users linked him to Bengal incidents. He clarified that he is not Bengali.
Das says roast-style humour struggles in India because jokes are shaped by hierarchy, not freedom. He adds that even big stars hosting award shows can’t fix the imbalance that limits sharp comedy.
Drawing from his book Why the Constitution Matters, Justice Chandrachud explained what justice truly means in a constitutional democracy. He stressed that justice is not abstract but lived, rooted in transparency, fairness, and accountability.
