Netaji Bhavan declared ‘All-women metro station’

Netaji Bhavan station of Kolkata Metro Railway has been declared an “All-women Metro station” from on Thursday.

The station will be managed entirely by women staff. Station superintendent, shift in-charge, booking clerks, security personnel, station porter, safaiwala, point operator and commercial porter of the station will all be women employees of Metro Railway.

Kolkata Metro railway has taken the decision on International Women’s Day for women empowerment and encourage them to show their potential.

The maiden run of the Kolkata Metro started on 24 October 1984 from Esplanade to Bhowanipur (now Netaji Bhavan station) which becomes an “all-women managed Metro station” from on Thursday.

On the other hand, Hijli station of Kharagpur division in West Midnapore district has been announced as “all women station.” Stationmaster, booking clerks, security personnel, point staff, train guards, ticket examiners, technicians, loco pilots and sub staff of the station will be only women.

The male staff working at Hijli is being replaced by women. South Eastern railway has taken the decision to observe International Women’s Day and encourage women staff to show their potentiality.

As a major step towards women empowerment, Eastern Railway engaged women as Loco Pilot and Assistant Loco Pilot in the field of electric locomotive operation.

It has been considered as a major step towards women empowerment. Eastern Railway has added a new feather in its cap by engaging women as lady Loco Driver and Assistant Loco Driver in the field of Electric locomotive operations.
