Bride walks out of mandap, refuses to marry ‘drunk’ man

A bold bride walked out of the marriage mandap when she found the groom to be drunk and misbehaving with everybody including her father.

The drunk groom landed in the police station and the bride refused to budge from her stand of not marrying such a person.

Police detained Shankar Panda, 28, and his elder brother and booked them under 149 IPC. Speaking to the media the girl said, “I cannot marry to a person who misbehaved with my family and that is final.”

She also added, “how can I trust a person who disregards and disrespects society.The girls father said “I may be poor but I stand with my daughter’s decision.”

Shankar who had got back to his senses begged apology “I am sorry for what I did and I want to marry the girl.” On being asked he said, “my friends served my liquor in green coconut and cold drinks, I never knew about it.” He was seen profusely begging excuse to the girl’s family.

IIC of Tangarpalli Manoranjan Pradhan said, “case under 149 of IPC has been registered against the brother and groom for rioting.” He said the groom’s side had asked for a day to finalise everything and normalise the situation.

It is learnt, the girl had categorically turned down all efforts for any reconciliation, when the report was being filed. Shankar Panda, 28, the groom is a resident of Tialkanagar, Bondhmunda. His marriage was fixed with a girl, a resident of Fertiliser Township.

Shankar arrived with his groom party for the day marriage. The groom was drunk and dancing with the baratis. At the mandap, Shankar misbehaved with his would be father in law and even vomited twice.

When the brother of the girl intervened he was also assaulted. And this time it was one of the brothers of the groom assaulted the father and duo.The bride stood up and announced that she will not marry the drunk.

Eyewitnesses said, “ she counter questioned all those seniors who were trying to change her decision and asked what they would have done in case of their own daughter.”She soon filed a complaint with the Tangarpalli PS against Shankar, his elder brother and others.
