Pakistan army spokesperson Asif Ghafoor congratulated the New Zealand cricket team on defeating India in the semifinal match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales.

“Congrats Team New Zealand.

A scintillating win to reach ICC WC Final. Team reflected spirit and sportsmanship carried from a great nation with moral values.

#SurpriseByNZ” tweeted Ghafoor.

Notably, Pakistan failed to qualify for the semifinals as they ended their World Cup campaign at the 5th spot in the points table. They could have made it to the final 4, had India defeated England.

Talking about the match, chasing a paltry 240 against New Zealand in the first semifinal of the 2019 World Cup, India lost their top order cheaply. At one stage, India were 92 for 6 and then Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni stitched a 106-run partnership to bring India back in the game but the duo failed to take India home and the Men in Blue were bundled out for 221 — 18 runs short of New Zealand’s.

New Zealand, in final at Lord’s on Sunday (14 July), will face the winner of the second semifinal between Australia and England on Thursday.
