‘US clearing Strait of Hormuz as a favour to the world,’ says Trump; targets other nations for ‘lack of courage’
US President Donald Trump today announced that the United States has initiated steps to “clear out” the Strait of Hormuz, calling the move a ‘favour to the world’ to ensure uninterrupted global energy supplies.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump said the effort is intended to benefit countries across the world, naming major economies such as China, Japan, South Korea, France and Germany. He positioned the initiative as part of a broader attempt to stabilise maritime trade routes amid rising tensions in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most critical oil transit corridors globally, handling a significant share of the world’s crude exports. Any disruption in the narrow passage has historically triggered sharp swings in oil prices and heightened risks for commercial shipping.

Trump also pointed to a ‘shift in global energy flows’, claiming that oil tankers from multiple countries are heading to the United States to load crude. He presented this as an indication of confidence in American energy supply amid instability in traditional export routes.
Sharp criticism of allies and rivals
Trump criticised other nations for the lack of courage in securing the route. He suggested that several countries depend on the United States to maintain stability in the region rather than taking independent action.
He remarked, “Incredibly, they don’t have the courage or will to do this work themselves.”
The comments come amid ongoing geopolitical friction involving Iran and Western powers, with tensions spilling into key maritime zones.
Media criticism amid escalating rhetoric
The US President used the opportunity to criticise sections of the media, accusing them of misrepresenting developments in the region. He dismissed reports suggesting gains by Iran, reiterating his stance that Tehran is facing significant setbacks.
He dismissed these reports as products of “Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS),” counter-arguing that Iran was actually “losing big.”
Claims on Iran’s defeat
In the same statement, Trump made sweeping claims about the military condition of Iran, asserting that its naval and air capabilities had been severely weakened. He also alleged that missile and drone production infrastructure had been largely destroyed.
He went on to claim that Iran’s military strength has been severely weakened, stating that its naval and air forces have been effectively neutralised.
Donald Trump also alleged that the country’s air defence systems, radar networks, and missile and drone production facilities have been largely destroyed. He further claimed that several senior leaders are “no longer with us.”
