The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of the cold wave being intensified as mercury is falling in several districts of the state with increasing fog.

Uttar Pradesh is in the grip of severe cold wave conditions with dense fog crippling the normal road, including rail and air traffic.

Schools and other educational institutions in most of the districts of the state have been closed for this week.

All the long-distance trains passing through UP are running late by 2 to 10 hours while some morning flights between Lucknow and Varanasi were also delayed due to the fog.

Road traffic was also derailed due to dense fog.

In the state capital Lucknow, the minimum temperature dipped severely as Sun God did not appear throughout the day on Tuesday.

The maximum temperature in Lucknow dipped to 12 degrees on Tuesday from 17 degrees recorded on Monday while the minimum was recorded at 6 degrees on both days.

Meanwhile, the weather office here on Tuesday said from Monday night to Tuesday morning, the mercury dipped severely in the state.

The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of the cold wave being intensified as mercury is falling in several districts of the state with increasing fog. Chances of drizzle are also being expressed in the third week of January.

According to the observation of the Meteorological Department at 8:30 in the morning on Tuesday, the minimum temperature in Kanpur was recorded at 3.6 degrees. It was 5.5 degrees in Ayodhya and 6.6 degrees in Barabanki. In western UP, it was 4 degrees in Najibabad and 5.2 degrees in Muzaffarnagar.

Kanpur and Najibabad are worst hit by the present cold wave whereas Hamirpur, Meerut, Agra, and Aligarh.
