A McDonald’s delivery at the Oval Office turned into a headline-grabbing political pitch as US President Donald Trump personally received the order and used the moment to promote the “no tax on tips” policy ahead of Tax Day.

The now-viral video shows Trump taking two bags of a McDonald’s order from the delivery person wearing a “DoorDash Grandma” shirt. What appeared to be a casual delivery quickly became a staged moment to spotlight tax relief for tipped workers.

“The reason for this is the fact that I heard you picked up an extra $11,000 … because the tax bill was so big, the refund was the biggest you’ve ever had,” Trump said as he received the order, in a video shared by the White House. He added, “We should call it the ‘great big beautiful tax cut bill,’ because it’s tremendous amounts of money.”

The delivery person, later identified as Sharon Simmons from Arkansas, was welcomed into the Oval Office as Trump spoke about the benefits of his proposed policy. When asked if the White House was known for tipping well, Simmons replied, “Yes, very,” as Trump pulled out cash from his pocket and handed it to her.

The moment was designed to draw attention to a provision under the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which allows tip earners to deduct up to $25,000 in income from 2025 through 2028.

Backing the push, DoorDash said the policy has already made a difference. “With No Tax on Tips, Dashers across the U.S. saved hundreds of millions of dollars last year. DoorDash is proud to advocate on behalf of Dashers like Sharon and push for policies like No Tax on Tips because they deliver real impact to so many hardworking people and their families,” said Max Rettig, DoorDash’s global head of public policy, in a statement.
