The presidential candidate of the Democratic Party for the 2020 US elections, Kamala Harris, has asked Twitter to suspend President Donald Trump’s account.

Harris made the remark following Trump’s tweets about the whistleblower whose complaint is at the centre of the Ukraine scandal.

She also put out a tweet saying, “Look let’s be honest, @realDonaldTrump’s Twitter account should be suspended.”

Stating that Donald Trump was using the popular social media platform to incite violence against the whistleblower who triggered an impeachment inquiry against him, Harris told CNN, “There’s plenty of…evidence to suggest that he is irresponsible with his words in a way that could result in harm…so the privilege of using those words in that way should probably be taken from him.”

“If you look at what he’s been tweeting today directed at the whistleblower, I frankly think that based on this and all we’ve seen before, including attacking members of Congress, that his Twitter account should be suspended,” she added.

When asked if his account suspension would look like Twitter trying to silence Trump, Harris said that it must be agreed that a US President’s words should be “not about belittling, much less harming, anyone” further adding, “If he’s not going to exercise self-restraint, then, perhaps, there should be other mechanisms in place to make sure that his words do not, in fact, harm anyone.”

President Trump shared a number of tweets on Tuesday calling the whistleblower’s complaint ‘fake’.

Earlier, President Trump had said on Friday that whoever provided information to the whistleblower about his phone call with the Ukranian President is “close to a spy”, adding that in the old days’ spies were dealt with differently, CNN reported.

The (United States) Whistleblower Protection Act prohibits federal agencies from threatening action against persons who raise concerns about the wrongdoing of/in the government.

Kamala Harris is California’s senator and a prime contendor in the next US Presidential elections of 2020.
