‘Video may have been a misrepresentation of events’: RT India deletes post on Pakistan PM-Russian President meeting

A news story went viral on Friday claiming Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had gate-crashed a closed-door meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after being kept waiting outside for around 40 minutes.

RT India had shared a video showing Pakistani PM Sharif and the country’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar waiting in an adjacent room while Putin and Erdogan held talks.

RT India has now deleted that video, saying the post may have been a misrepresentation of the facts.

“We deleted an earlier post about Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif waiting to meet Vladimir Putin at the Peace and Trust Forum in Turkmenistan. The post may have been a misrepresentation of the events,” the broadcaster posted on its X account.

The Pakistani Prime Minister was scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Putin on the sidelines of an international forum in Turkmenistan.

While the events of this meeting may have taken place differently that what was originally reported, earlier this year, Sharif and Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir were made to wait for nearly 30 minutes at the White House, as President Trump was occupied with signing executive orders.

The meeting between the Pakistani PM and the Russian President came just days after Putin visited India to attend the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit. During his two-day visit, the Russia leader held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Putin also attended a private dinner at Modi’s 7 Lok Kalyan Marg residence where the two leaders discussed issues of mutual interest for around two hours.
