The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Thursday announced that they had eliminated a Hamas terrorist who was working against Israel under the garb of a journalist with Qatar-based news outlet Al Jazeera.
“Eliminated: Muhammad Samir Muhammad Washah, a Hamas terrorist operating under the guise if an Al Jazeera journalist. Washah, a key terrorist in Hamas’ rocket and weapons production HQ, was also involved in the production and transfer of weapons through Gaza. The terrorist was actively involved in planning attacks against IDF troops and posed a concrete threat to forces in the area,” IDF posted in its X handle.

According to Al Jazeera, Washah was killed in a drone strike in Gaza city while he was travelling on the al-Rashid street, the coastal road that runs west of Gaza city.
Al Jazeera, meanwhile, has issued a statement condemning and the attack and mourning Washah’s death, accusing Israel of deliberately and systematically hunting down journalists.
“The Al Jazeera Media Network strongly condemns the heinous crime of targeting and killing Al Jazeera Mubasher correspondent Mohammed Wishah, following a strike on the vehicle he was in west of the Gaza Strip. This represents a new and blatant violation of all international laws and norms and reflects a continued systematic policy of targeting journalists and silencing the voice of truth.”
“The targeting of Mohammed Wishah is yet another episode in a series of deliberate crimes committed against journalists. This killing is part of a dangerous escalation directly targeting media workers, in a clear attempt to obstruct reporting on the reality on the ground in the Gaza Strip and to conceal crimes committed against civilians.”
“While expressing its deepest condolences to his family and colleagues, Al Jazeera stresses that such crimes will not deter it from continuing its journalistic mission. The network calls on the international community, as well as all human rights and media organisations, to take a firm and urgent stance to stop these grave violations, bring those responsible to justice, and end the policy of impunity that enables such crimes against journalists.”
