Iran’s Supreme Leader’s representative in India on Monday praised New Delhi’s diplomatic approach and indicated that the country could play a larger role in addressing the ongoing conflict in West Asia, even as tensions continue to escalate.

His remarks come at a time when the war in the Gulf region has entered its second month, with ripple effects being felt globally through rising fuel prices and disruptions in shipping routes.

Speaking to ANI, Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi described the conflict as a serious error from the outset, saying its impact is not limited to Iran but is being felt across countries.

Describing it as a ‘big mistake’, he said, “From the beginning it was a very big mistake. It wasn’t just only this war against Iran, but this war is against all human beings; it was against the whole world. And you will see the result of this war is a lot of people in different countries are suffering at the moment– initiating of this war was a very wrong and a big mistake.”

He urged world leaders to act together and press the United States to bring the conflict to an end, citing the growing strain on everyday life.

“All countries can play a big role to stop this war because now the war is now affecting the lives of lots of people- the price of gas, oil and shipping has increased. So I think it is very necessary and important that world leaders come together and they ask President Trump to stop this war,” Ilahi added.

Ilahi said India’s diplomatic strength positions it well to contribute more actively in easing tensions.

“The Indian diplomacy is very good, and they can also play more role in this issue,” he said.

Trump’s warning on Strait of Hormuz draws response

Ilahi’s comments followed a strongly worded message from US President Donald Trump earlier in the day, in which he warned Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face serious consequences.

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F****n’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah,” he said in a post on Truth Social.

Reacting to the tone, Ilahi said language reflects a person’s character, noting that several American lawmakers had also distanced themselves from such remarks.

“The language which every human being uses is the manifestation of his personality and his humanity and his morality. So someone who uses rude language means that this is his personality–a lot of American senators denied using that language,” Ilahi told ANI.
