President Donald Trump on Wednesday slammed Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada, for his remarks against the United States at Davos yesterday. Also, Trump targeted Canada, claiming that the country exists because of the United States, and Carney should remember that next time he speaks.

“Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, next time you make your statements,” he said during his address at the 56th Annual Summit of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

He further added that Canada gets a lot of freebies from the US and therefore, they should be grateful, but stressed that “they’re not”. He said, “I watched your prime minister yesterday. He wasn’t so grateful. But they should be grateful to us.”

Yesterday, the Prime Minister of Canada at the World Economic Forum in Davos said that the United States‑led international system of governance was enduring “a rupture” and the world was witnessing great power competition. He cautioned against weaponisation of trade, finance, and supply chains. Carney said, “We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition. Great powers have begun using economic integration as weapons, using tariffs as leverage.”

Opposing tariff threats, Carney made a veiled reference to the United States for its recent quest to acquire Greenland. He urged for a renewed multilateral engagement to safeguard sovereignty, stability and prosperity.
