YouTube did not say what caused the global blackout.
In its 13 -year history, YouTube has not seen downtime too many times. However, in 2018 alone, the Google-owned video service has suffered outage four times already. The last time it saw a service disruption was on July 11 this year during the FIFA World Cup match between Croatia and England.
In May, YouTube TV had faced an outage during the NBA Eastern Conference Finals.
Prior to that, YouTube visitors were greeted with a 500 internal server error message on the channel pages in April.
The most infamous YouTube outage took place a decade ago when a Pakistan ISP accidentally took down the video site around the world for several hours. The service disruption was cause after the Pakistan government ordered ISPs to censor the trailer for an alleged anti-Islamic film by Dutch politician Geert Wilders.
