Xiaomi has announced the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphone at an event in China.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are the successor smartphones to presently available Redmi 4 smartphone variants. Following the smartphone market trend for bezel-less edge-to-edge display, Xiaomi too have got a 5.7-inch HD+ 18:9 full-screen display in Redmi 5 and a 5.99-inch FHD+ 18:9 full-screen display in Redmi 5 Plus smartphone.

Inside, the Redmi 5 features Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor coupled with 2GB or 3GB RAM with 16GB and 32GB of internal storage respectively.

About the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, it is powered by Snapdragon 625 coupled with 3GB or 4GB of RAM with 32GB and 64GB of storage.
Both smartphones offer a 12MP rear camera with 1.25μm pixel size sensor and a 5MP front-facing camera with selfie flash. There is a fingerprint sensor on the back.
The Redmi 5 packs a 3300mAh battery, while the Redmi 5 Plus packs a 4000mAh battery. Both these run Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) with MIUI 9.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus comes in Black, Light Blue, Gold and Rose Gold colour option in China. The Redmi 5 with 2GB RAM+16GB storage is priced at CNY 799, which is roughly Rs. 7,990. The Redmi 5 with 3GB RAM+32GB storage is priced at CNY 899, which is roughly Rs. 8,990.
About the Plus model, the Redmi 5 Plus with 3GB RAM+32GB storage is priced at CNY 999, which is roughly Rs. 9,990. The top-end Redmi 5 Plus with 4GB RAM+64GB storage is priced at CNY 1,299, which is roughly Rs. 12,990.
Both will go on sale in China starting December 12.
