Apple may get brand new look with iPhone 2020

With just days away from this year’s September 10 keynote. Rumors and speculation are already teeming in for the next years iPhone line-up. The freshly brewed research from Ming-Chi Kuo, a reliable Apple analyst claimed that the next year’s phone will feature an all-new-design after iPhone X, reported 9to5Mac.

Kuo’s note further adds 2020 lineup will feature three major changes: “All-new form factor design, 5G support, and camera function upgrades,” among these, 5G support was already known, Per Kou has already said previously that Apple would be bringing 5G to all three of main iPhone models next year, and something as vague as “camera function upgrades” is practically a given for any iPhone release.

But the new design element would be significant since Apple has greatly slowed down the rate at which it introduces the new form factors. The company originally released devices in a sluggish manner with a major redesign one year, followed by a refinement of that design – the “S” year – but recently that pace has slowed. The iPhone 6 design lasted a full four years, appearing on the 6, the 6S, the 7, and the 8. The iPhone X design appears to be following that trend, heading for its third year with largely similar iPhone 11 lineup expected to be announced after few days.

The redesign might predictably be slimmer, although early report from Kuo indicates that Apple will be adjusting screen sizes for its two flagship OLED phones, down to a 5.4-inch panel (compared to the 5.8-inch iPhone XS) on the smaller device and up to a 6.7-inch screen on the larger (versus the 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max).

Another report suggests that Apple would be bringing in-display fingerprint technology to the 2020 iPhone. The Cupertino-based company is also planning to incorporate Time of Flight (ToF) 3D sensing rear camera system in 2020 iPhone models. In addition, Apple would use Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) in the cameras of the 2020 iPhones. VCSEL is a key component of Apple’s TrueDepth camera that also powers features like Face ID, Animoji and Portrait mode selfies.

Apple is reportedly mulling to resurrect the cheaper iPhone SE for emerging markets, especially India and China, early next year. The new model would be Apple’s first low-cost smartphone since the launch of the iPhone SE in 2016, which started at $399.
