US President Donald Trump on Sunday (local time) congratulated Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and her coalition on what he described as a "landslide victory" in Japan's general election, calling the outcome historic and praising her leadership.
Last year, despite the pandemic related slowdown, the defense spending went up by an impressive 15 per cent, from the previous year.
Trump is scheduled to arrive in Japan on Saturday night. He will meet Prime Minister Abe informally on Sunday and also join him at a sumo wrestling match.
He thanked Abe for his commitment towards Japanese investments in the US which were a major economic contribution and source of job creation.
