The Orissa High Court exercising judicial restraint and playing a balancing role commuted the death sentence awarded to nine condemned convicts for perpetrating a witchcraft-related triple murder more than eight years back to imprisonment for the rest of their life.
The shooters associated with Kapil Sangwan’s Nandu gang, identified as Sahil and Vijay, were wanted for broad daylight firings in Tilak Nagar and Kakrola areas of West and South West Delhi, and a triple murder case in Panchkula, Haryana.
Those arrested have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, Prince, Ravinder Singh, Sukhchain Singh, Akshay, and Rajbeer Singh, all residents of Ferozepur.
According to police, Balesh Kumar (63) escaped the police net after killing a relative and two labourers in 2004.
The children were playing outside their house on Friday evening when they suddenly went missing, said the police.
