On 24 April 2026 , India completes five years of the SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) Scheme - an initiative that has quietly but decisively transformed the foundations of rural governance.
The remarks were made as the minister chaired a high-level review meeting of the "Survey of India" at the Parliament House. SVAMITVA, short for Survey Village and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas, is a village property mapping service aided by drone surveys carried out by the government that allows self-mapping of land in hinterlands.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed over 65 lakh property cards to property owners under the SVAMITVA scheme, across ten states and two union territories.
The move will pave the way for villagers to use the property as a financial asset for taking loans and other financial benefits.
