Left manifesto promises devp in ‘developed’ Siliguri

The Left leadership has admitted to problems related to roads, drainage system, disposal of garbage, while it has promised that it would look into the issues seriously after coming to power. On the other hand, the Left claimed that it would manage approval for a safe drinking water project from authorities concerned and formulate a proper plan to keep the Mahananda river healthy by bringing in beautification plans on either side of the river and by building parks.

TMC firm on SMC poll candidates

"There is no question of any change. It is party chief Mamata Banerjee's instructions. Party leaders and workers will have to accept the list of candidates and work for them." A party insider, meanwhile, said: "If we break the list after changing a single candidate, it would be very difficult to tackle a chain of reaction."

Cong, Left to field candidates in all SMC wards for polls

"Our candidates will contest in 47 wards in the elections. Most of the candidates will be nominated from the youth and student fronts of our party. We had no formal discussions with the Left Front, but according to the situation, we may come close to them to defeat the Trinamul Congress and the BJP, as there is nothing permanent in politics," said the Congress state working president and Darjeeling district Congress (Plains) president, Sankar Malakar.
