India’s Census 2027 introduces a digital-first approach with mobile apps, multilingual access, and self-enumeration, aiming to modernise the country’s largest data collection exercise.
In a gazette notification, the state government officially announced that the population census, to be conducted over 45 days, will collect information on caste, housing, basic amenities, and modern household accessories.
Preparations for the country's first fully digital Census-2027 have begun in full swing. For the first time, citizens are being given the option of self-enumeration.
The whole process of census-taking needs at least one year, and only thereafter will the provisional population figures be available. The break-up of the population into various social categories and workers and the related preparation of final tables will take further time. In fact, by the time the final religious tables start coming up, say in 2027, the Government will be busy preparing for the next census operation of 2031
