Former Uttar Pradesh Director of Social Welfare Department Mishrilal Paswan has been arrested in connection with the scholarship scam of Rs 7.95 crore.

According to sources, the Bhopal Police Crime Branch has registered an FIR in this connection.
The two in connivance with others launched two programmes on solar awareness and pre-matric scholarship namely 'Chuuloo Aasman'.
The investigation reveals that a private institute hosted camps in villages and collected documents of students, by promising them completely free admission, and fictitiously used the certificates to show the youths as their students.
She also requested that since the Congress government had clearly failed to distribute the SC scholarship funds in a bonafide manner to the beneficiaries, the Centre may take over this responsibility pending an inquiry into the case.
Accused scheduled caste and backward classes welfare minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot said he was willing to face any enquiry and action even if an iota of truth is found in allegations. In a statement, senior SAD leaders Bikram Singh Majithia and Pawan Kumar Tinu said Sadhu Dharamsot had played with the future of Dalit children of the state which could not be tolerated at any cost
Officials scanned records and gathered evidence from 22 private educational institutes in Chandigarh, Mohali, Nawanshahr, Ambala, Gurdaspur, Karnal, Una, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Chamba and Kangra on 14 May.
The funds were allegedly siphoned off to other accounts rather than the bank accounts of around 19,915 students, mostly from remote districts of Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur.
