It is reported that around 10,000 Bangladesh nationals are living in various parts of Kerala with fake documents under the guise of migrant workers from West Bengal.
Under the PMGKAY, the period for distribution for free of cost food grains under the PMGKAY has been extended for five years w.e.f. 1st January, 2024. The scheme would ensure effective and uniform implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
"The state governments may not have issued them the ration cards for reasons of either lack of identity or lack of home address. All these issues will be addressed," Pandey said.
As per the eligibility prescribed under the NFS Act 2013, 5 kg of food grains was given free of cost to the needy people, including migrant workers, unorganized workers, construction workers, domestic helpers who do not have ration cards. Under this scheme, four kg of wheat and one kg of rice are included per person per month.
A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde and comprising of Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian said, "The matter is too serious. We have to hear it."
The non-ration card holders of the district can call on 9018249426 or 8825010324 to raise their requests.
The new form (Form 10) will be available in the department’s website and camps will be organised to help people to fill up the forms.
