The first National Electricity Policy, notified in February 2005, addressed fundamental challenges of the power sector, including demand–supply deficits, limited access to electricity, and inadequate infrastructure.
Under this World Bank-supported Program, no new investment in hydropower is envisaged but the program will help the state develop uniform environment and social policy and procedures.
The move aims to encourage and support the states in undertaking reforms to enhance the efficiency and performance of the power sector.
