Weeks after facing widespread flight cancellations and chaos across airports, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IndiGo Airlines, Pieter Elbers, told his employees that the "worst is behind us".
The DGCA's directive came a day after the Ministry of Civil Aviation issued an order cutting the number of flights that IndiGo can operate by 10 per cent after the massive cancellation of flights by the crisis-ridden airline due to an acute pilot shortage under the new flight duty limitation rules.
The Aviation Ministry summoned IndiGo's top management, including CEO Pieter Elbers, to review the measures taken by the airline to stabilise its operations.
IndiGo CEO apologises for the flight disruptions across the country, attributing the chaos to crew shortages and mandatory safety requirements.
IndiGo's flight disruptions worsened after the pilots' association accused airlines of “creating” the crisis to exert pressure on regulators.
Elbers, 52, is a veteran of the aviation industry. He started his career at KLM in 1992 at their Schiphol hub and over time, held several managerial positions in both The Netherlands and overseas in Japan, Greece and Italy.
