Gandhi the Hindu

The obvious question which arises is why the adjective ‘Hindu‘ is put before the name of Mahatma Gandhi? Indira Gandhi was also a Hindu, but her name was not preceded by the adjective Hindu, nor was the name of her father, Jawaharlal Nehru
