BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has revived the Katchatheevu controversy, alleging that the Congress transferred the island to Sri Lanka without Tamil Nadu's consent and questioning the constitutional process behind the 1974 agreement.
Parroting the BJP's view, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi on Sunday squarely blamed the then Congress government of Indira Gandhi and the DMK government of late M Karunanidhi in the state for ceding the Katchatheevu islet in the Palk Strait to Sri Lanka in 1974.
Katchatheevu is a mirage that keeps coming to the Tamil people like an unasked-for vada with masala dosa when elections are around the corner. The island occupies an area of 285-acres and has no fresh water.
