Since last week, antigen tests are being conducted in medical colleges and hospitals in the city and neighbouring districts.
The Union Health Ministry, meanwhile, said the total number of people being tested for COVID-19 in the country will soon touch one crore.
'We have 2,500 hospitals in Mumbai. Every hospital now has been authorities to go ahead with testing. We even allowed people to let their swabs collected from their homes, which is outside the guidelines of the ICMR,' the commissioner added.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had issued a stern warning to private hospitals on the alleged denial of admission to coronavirus patients.
