French Revolution

Lenin’s Critics

Karl Marx (1818-83) and Friedrich Engels (1820-95) viewed the 1789 French Revolution as a symbol of the demise of feudalism and inauguration of a bourgeois society which eventually would be dislodged by the socialist revolution.

The Hungry Tide

India has brushed the enormous diversities of inequality under the carpet for too long, it is time that it came to terms and undertook measures to redress it. The present crisis should enable the government to do some critical and long-term thinking to completely overhaul the social system and incentivise the under-class to enable them restart their lives.

Dynastic vs Democratic

Democracy is monarchy with the ‘welfare of the people‘ as its redeeming principle. We shall be fooling ourselves if we believe that a Prime Minister is primus inter pares, or first among equals, even in the cabinet. No, he is a king; a king in democracy. The democratic king, unlike the dynastic monarch, is required to serve in empathy with his subjects and to be in solidarity with the citizens. This pro-people disposition should distinguish a Prime Minister if he is to be a democrat, and not a dynast. The deafening silence of the Prime Minister regarding the Unnao atrocity, which has caused a national outcry, is disappointing.
