The arrested accused, Jyoti Soni, is the wife of Dr Praveen Soni, a government doctor at Chhindwara, who was practicing privately, and had prescribed the cough syrup to most of the deceased children.
The latest fatality was of Ambika Vishwakarma, who succumbed during treatment at a hospital in nearby Nagpur in Maharashtra. Vishwakarma belonged to Kakai Bilwa village in Chaurai tehsil of Chhindwara district.
Kamal Nath came to Chhindwara 40 days after the first child’s death, which had occurred on 3 September, following which, around 25 kids have succumbed to date.
