At least sixteen people killed and one injured after an explosion occurred at a rat-hole coal mine in the Thangsku area in East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya.
The authorities have begun an investigation to establish the causes of the incident, according to a media report.
Emergency services found the bodies of 14 miners, while two other workers remained trapped underground.
