Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) candidate Sonu Kumar Rai won the by-election for the Bihar Legislative Council's Bhojpur-cum-Buxar Local Authorities constituency seat, defeating JD(U) candidate Kanhaiya Prasad by 340 votes.
One seat is vacant following the resignation of BJP national president Nitin Nabin, the MLA from Bankipur, after his election to the Rajya Sabha.
A one-day special session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly will be held on April 24. During this session, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary will present a motion of confidence in the House and seek to prove his government’s majority.
Speaking at the Bihar Legislative Assembly’s foundation day ceremony in Patna on Saturday, Birla expressed concern over instances of disruptions and disorderly conduct in legislative proceedings and observed that such practices adversely affect the image of democratic institutions.
The Budget Session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council will commence on 2 February with the Governor’s address. The session will continue till 27 February.
