The Statesman family in Delhi bade a sad farewell last week to a stalwart who had served the newspaper with rare devotion for over four decades.

Bhupinder Singh Majra, 65, had worked his way up to head both the advertisement and circulation departments, but did so in such a manner that just about everyone lovingly called him “Bhupi” ~ for he was ever-friendly and exuded such old-world charm that people were only too happy to cooperate and support his myriad efforts.

He had been ailing these last several months. Bhupi made his mark when for over 10-15 years he “managed” and nurtured the annual Statesman Vintage and Classic Car Rally, and ensured that it attracted over 100 entries, and that the participants had a really enjoyable times.

That was “vintage” Bhupi, striving to make everyone comfortable and happy. He will be sorely missed by colleagues, friends and all those who had dealt with him.
