Watching Swansea City securing a 1-0 victory against West Brom in Premier League on Saturday, central midfielder Alfie Mawson feels it should be a turning point for The Swans.

“We want West Brom to be a turning point,” Mawson said as quoted by swanseacity.com.

“Wednesday will be a tough game, but we have to show the same sort of belief and commitment we showed against West Brom and then we will aim to topple a very strong City side,” the 23-year-old added.

Paul Clement-coached Swansea will next play leaders Manchester City, bidding to climb the Premier League table.

Unfazed ahead of facing the league leaders, Mawson added: “We need to build on the West Brom win and that means doing the basics again. Wednesday will be more about concentration, but we are ready to go now off the back of a good performance.”

The 19th-ranked Swansea secured the victory through a late goal by Wilfried Bony. Mawson didn’t hesitate to hail the striker and termed the side ‘relieved’ after the win.

“We are relieved. The win has been a long time coming. We felt the victory over Huddersfield was going to be the turning point, but it was not to be. But the lads were brilliant against west Brom and Wilf has come up trumps with the goal, which we really needed.”

“The fans have been very good to us. Understandably they have been frustrated and we have been frustrated too. But we were all happy with the West Brom result and now we have to build on it,” Mawson added.
