After getting humiliated by arch-rival India, Pakistan women team put up their best performance against Ireland. With the help of skipper Javeria Khan’s 74-run knock, the Women-in-Green posted their highest T20I score — 139 for the loss six wickets — against Ireland.

Following the total, Ireland were completely outplayed as they scored just 109 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Other than Isobel Joyce and Clare Shillington, no other Irish batter was able to counter-attack Pakistan bowlers.

It was also Ireland’s second consecutive loss in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. After the match, Irish captain Laura Delany broke down while addressing the media at the post-match conference.

Talking about their defeat, Laura Delany termed the loss “incredibly frustrating”.

“If we were professional I wonder what the score would have been out there today to lose the match by 40 runs,” Delany said, adding, “I think 120-130 would be par on this wicket, unfortunately, we didn’t have enough partnerships in the middle and that cost us the game.”

Pakistan’s captain Javeria Khan, who was awarded the player of the match, said she played the best knock of her career.

“I have been working hard on my T20 game, I know that you have to score runs quickly in this format. It was a good win. We need some improvement. It was a good fielding effort today, the girls have been working hard. It was a must-win game for us and we did a great job to stay in the competition,” Javeria Khan said.
