Vijay Kannan, who represented India in the Davis Cup between 2001-2004, will be the top draw among 48 players from all over the country taking part in the inaugural edition of the six-team Bengal Premier Tennis League (BPTL), starting here on April 18.

Kannan, who was roped in by Durgapur Warriors, will be joined by seven other teammates as each of the six franchises will have eight players in their respective squads.

Besides Durgapur, the other teams are Midnapore Waves, Malda Slices, CEAC Bankura Horses, Howrah Hurricanes, and Kolkata Crusaders.

Each team will have six men and two women players. A match-up between two sides will have five games including two men's singles, one women's singles, one men's doubles and mixed doubles.

There will be a total of 15 league matches, one play-off and a final.

While the winners purse will be Rs.3 lakh, the runners-up will be richer by Rs.2.5 lakh.
