US Open 2019: Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic enter Round of 16

After losing the first set in both his first and second-round wins in US Open, Federer produced a powerful performance to clinch victory in the third round in straight sets against Daniel Evans of Britain.

Swiss tennis icon Roger Federer and world no 1 Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic won their respective matches in the third round of US Open and entered the Round of 16 of the US Open Grand Slam competition on Friday.

After losing the first set in both his first and second-round wins in US Open, Federer produced a powerful performance to clinch victory in the third round in straight sets against Daniel Evans of Britain 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 in a match which lasted one hour and 20 minutes.

Federer, who is seeded third in the competition, was clearly the better player on the court, having hit as many as 10 aces. He moreover won 80 per cent of first-serve points and 70 per cent on his second serve. With his win in the third round, he has now entered the Round 16 of US Open for the 18th year in a row.

In fact, he is yet to miss the second week of the US Open after making his debut in 2000. He will be up against David Goffin of Belgium on Saturday for birth in quarterfinals.

In the other men’s singles clash, Novak Djokovic dominated his clash against American Denis Kudla as he also won in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. The match lasted a little over two hours.

“That was a big improvement from the last match,” Djokovic said after the match.

He is set to face Stan Wawrinka in the fourth round of the competition.
