Australian T20I cricket team skipper Aaron Finch on Tuesday (3rd July) surpassed his own record of the highest individual Twenty20 international runs (156) score. In the third T20I match of the tri-nation series (Pakistan, Australia, Zimbabwe), Finch scored 172 in 76 balls against Zimbabwe and in the process became the highest individual run scorer in T20I.

The previous record was also held by Finch who had scored 156 runs against England in 2013.

However, Finch failed to beat West Indies batsman Chris Gayle’s record of 175. Finch was bowled out by Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani when only two balls of Australia’s innings were left.

The opening stand between Finch and D’Arcy Short for the first wickets of 223 runs is also the record stand for T20 internationals for any wicket.

On Tuesday, batting first and riding on Aaron Finch’s magical 172 runs innings, Australia scored 229-2. Aussie opener Short scored 46 from 42 balls. The Aussie team won the match by 100 runs as the Australian bowlers struck early and restricted the hosts to 129 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs.
